A New Year, a New Beginning
It’s time for a new era of Backloggd.
Happy new year!
While 2024 was another good year with three major updates adding a plethora of goodies to the site, I still can’t help but feel progress had slowed down when comparing to previous years. My time had been more constrained as I was only able to spend a handful of hours per week making progress. That became even less impactful when there were technical issues and performance problems taking most of the already limited time. Well that’s all about to change…
As many might know, I’m primarily a one man show working on Backloggd. The updates, the social media posts, these articles, the support emails, etc.. is something I take on 100% in my free time. Moderation is the only exception to that, credit to the wonderful site and Discord moderators who volunteer their efforts to help keep Backloggd’s community how it is today! Getting the site to where it is now is a dream within itself, but it’s always been my greater goal to be able to run the site full-time without any limitation.
With that I’m super excited to announce that because of how well the Patreon has grown, I am now able to attempt working on Backloggd as my full-time job! I say attempt because I still have a gap I need to meet to become fully sustainable (curse you taxes and health insurance) with the goal to close that gap by 2026.
What does that mean for Backloggd?
It’s going to be a journey and a lot of experimenting now that I have 10x the time, but my goal is to use this year to push Backloggd as far as it can go, do things I could’ve never done before as a hobby project. The roadmap might be a good indicator of some of these ideas to come👀
It also means more consistent and reliable support across the board. From better maintaining the site’s performance to responding to support requests faster. I’m hoping to evenly spread this new time across all responsibilities.
I’ll begin ramping up into this new way of working starting immediately. In the short-term you can expect a couple of minor updates to add onto the 1.13 update as I also prepare to wrap up the GOTY results. I’ll also spend an initial set of time just cleaning things up, from improving performance to just refactoring some of my more questionable code. Stay tuned for what’s next in the coming month!
How can I help?
The best way to support the site is by continuing to be an awesome member of it :) submit your feedback, create those bug reports, and just keep on enjoying what you love about logging games!
And if you really love Backloggd, you can always help by supporting my work on Patreon. In return you get some exclusive perks as a thank you for believing in this project. Here’s also my actual thank you to everyone who’s making my dream project come true, from the over 350K registered users to the 1.3K patrons financially backing it. This past year has been bigger than ever in terms of growth and I literally wouldn’t be able to do this without you!
With that news out of the way, time to get to work! I’m looking forward to what’s to come in 2025 and can’t wait to look back at it all next year.
See you on the site!
